WHY DO SPIRITS STAY BEHIND?
Most entities are emotionally attached to certain person(s), place or thing.
Some spirits remain at or near the site of their death, especially if it was sudden and unexpected. They remain confused and don't know or accept that they have died. These spirits remain in the area and try to make contact with anyone that passes by that is sensitive to spirits. This type of spirit can be found almost anywhere a death has occurred. You might ask how is it possible that a spirit does not know it is dead? It is a good question, after all. There are many ways in which a person can die suddenly. It could be an accident, a heart attack or stroke or some form of unexpected violence. Imagine if you will, you are driving to work one morning. Maybe you have your mind on something other than just driving. If you do, you are just like everyone else in the world. Most people are in a trance state when they are driving. You may be caught up in the music you are playing or you may be thinking about what you did or didn’t do on the weekend. You may even be thinking about how much you dread going to work that day. Anyway, as you are driving, someone shoots through a red light or a stop sign and you broadside him at 50 miles per hour. Before your brain even has time to register what is happening, you are dead.
Sometimes a spirit realizes that it is dead and that life continues beyond that. They do not go to the light for reasons such as the fear that their existence will end, fear of the unknown, fear of going to hell or being judged for past deeds. These spirits are bound here because of the their own fears. It is kind of like the old saying, “The devil you know is better than the devil you don’t.” Staying earthbound may seem to be the lesser of two evils.
Guilt can also be a reason for a spirit being stuck here. They may feel like they have left the family or loved ones too soon and uncared for. This is also the main reason why suicide victims and other spirits whose death was caused by their actions (alcoholics, drug overdose, etc) remain behind. They feel guilty over taking their life or contributing to their death.
Other spirits stay behind to take care of unfinished business. It may be to make sure their finances and their loved ones are ok or to pass along one final message. Often these earthbound spirits do not remain here for long, once they can complete their goal, they normally pass over. If the deed that they are attempting to finish is complicated they will often contact the living to assist them. In many cases the living are unsure of what the spirit wants and it adds to the length of the time the spirit spends here. Almost anything that a spirit feels compelled to do before it goes to the light can make it remain here until it feels comfortable with how they have left things.
The living can also hold a spirit here. By not letting go of them, they can be bound here by our love and unable or unwilling to go on until the living can come to terms with the loss. This happens when people go beyond the normal grieving process and become obsessed with the deceased person. They feel that they left things unsaid, undone, etc. and they feel guilt over it. This keeps the spirit from going over many times simply because it does not want us to feel this way or be that upset.
A spirit may choose to stay with an object it cherished or the spirit may choose to stay in a house where it was the happiest. This is the case in the majority of haunting situations. The spirit may have spent most of its life in the house and it just does not want to leave it behind. That spirit may or may not want anyone else to occupy the house. Some spirits are content with the new occupants and may even want to try to communicate with them. Of course, the living residents of the house may be terribly frightened because they are looking at ghostly activity and are coloring their reactions based on their belief systems. What I mean by that is that someone who knows little or nothing about the supernatural will most likely be terrified simply because they see the spirit or its activity and feel that they are being threatened. In actuality, they are misreading the situation. The other side of the coin is that the spirit may not want anyone else to live in his house. In that case, the residents may well experience threatening or malicious activity as the deceased individual tries to force out the living people. The spirit may decide to break cherished objects or it may do everything it can to frighten the people. It may open and slam doors, turn electrical appliances on and off or it may make an effort to show itself. By the way, those are tough cases to work because the spirit has the right to be there and it is not necessarily evil. Of course, once it does some malicious things, it has crossed the line and can then be thrown out. However, it may choose to simply harass the living by moving things around or hiding them. Sometimes they can be reasoned with; sometimes not.
ORBS
What are these balls of transparent light we find in photos taken in allegedly haunted places? No one has the true answer to this question yet, but that's part of the job of researchers and investigators.
Prevailing theories by paranormalists as to the nature of these “orbs"
Orbs represent some form of spiritual energy of the departed.
Orbs are one physical form (the most common) which a spirit can take… the other two being ectoplasm and apparitions.
Orbs are the lowest form that a ghost or spirit appears – thus being the mode of choice among them. The small “orbs” take up the least amount of energy and apparitions taking up the most.
Orbs are the energy being transferred from a source such as power lines, heat, batteries, etc. – to a spirit so it can manifest.
Orbs are “life forms” that travel alone or groups and are the human soul or “life force” that once inhabited a physical body.
Thus, from the popular theories listed, the general consensus can be drawn that among many paranormalists is that “orbs” represent a form of spiritual energy (the human soul or “life force” that once inhabited a physical body) that manifests in the form of “orbs” or small globes that one occasionally sees in photographs. Furthermore, these “orbs” are said to be invisible to the naked eye (except on rare occasions where they have been witnessed by individuals) and most often appear as photographic anomalies (captured mostly, but not exclusively, in the digital format).
IMAGINARY FRIEND OR????????
Another theory concerns the imaginary friends of children. Some believe that spirits are all around us, we just lack the open-mindedness to acknowledge that they are with us.This is because we are "programmed" when we are young by adults, that told us that there are no such things as ghosts. Imaginary friends fall under this same programming. Parents will teach the children that their "friend" is not real, and they should stop talking to themselves. This is the kind of thinking that closes our minds to anything that is not flesh and blood or solid as a rock. When we are born, we have no preconcieved notions of what is supposed to be real and what is supposed to be imaginary. We don't even know what imagination is. So, it is believed that babies and small children are the best chance a spirit has to communicate with the living. There have been numerous documented cases where a child or baby has been moved from one spot to another, or an infant has gained posession of toys that were no where near them. Many people have watched a baby move it's eyes around, as if following someone or a child suddenly laughing for no obvious reason. Perhaps that child is seeing a grandparent who passed on before getting a chance to see their grandchild. What about children who are heard having long conversations with an unseen friend? Most can be attributed to an overactive imagination, but there are a few cases in which children have gained information they could not have known Perhaps imaginary friends are more real then we give them credit.
THE DREAM THEORY
The most common, but overlooked paranormal experience is the dream. People have had dreams where loved ones have come back to guide us through some problem or to simply say goodbye after they have passed on. Many of you who are reading this have had these kind of dreams. They are very vivid and realistic.
WHAT ARE GHOSTS MADE OF???
A very popular theory is that they are made up of the natural electromagnetic energy that the human body has inside itself. This theory is popular because very often during ghost hunts in haunted places and other places of paranormal phenomena, EMF readings that are unexplainable and erratic are caught on EMF detectors. You may be wondering what else a ghost may be made up of besides EMFs. Well, one man thought that the human soul is made up of something that holds a little more weight. Duncan McDougall tried to prove that the human soul was actually made up of some kind of mass. He performed an experiment with five dying patients by weighing them before and after their death. He found that their bodies actually hat lost a couple of ounces after those patients had died. It seems that there may be more to the soul than just EMFs but what exactly is it? This we may not ever know.
ECTOPLASM THEORY
Ectoplasm is the supposed residue left by spirits. It is theorized that ectoplasm is the reason ghosts can materialize. The reason that this residue is visible to us is because
it gives spirits a physical link to the corporeal world. Many mediums claim that ectoplasmic residue is the movement of spirits disturbing magnetic fields around the earth.
