We hope this page will help you to better understand the different types of equipments and how they are used when conducting paranormal investigations. CAMERA
A camera is one of the most basic pieces of equipment used for paranormal investigating.Digital camera's do have some advantages such as,the ability to immediately view your pictures and most have a sensitivity to infrared and ultraviolet light.Digital camera's can also store thousands of pictures on memory chips and most come with AV cables to hook into a pc for reviewing.Digital camera's are also cost effective in that there is no film to buy or develop. The drawback of using a digital camera is that there is no negative to prove the pictures have not been tampered with. They can also create false positives and the quality is not as high.Of course the 35mm produces a higher quality and also provides you with a negative to back up your findings. The 35mm basically captures what it see's at the time. However, you'll spend a great deal of money on film and developing. If you do chose to use a 35mm most investigators agree that 400speed film works best for psychic photography. When trying to capture a spirit on film we feel you should not just walk into a place and start snapping pictures.Take your time, walk around the place, introduce yourself and let whatever spirit may be there become familiar with you.You can even say aloud "If anyone is here I'd really like to take a picture of you." How would you feel if someone just walked into your home etc.. and started snapping pictures all over the place? You may also want to explain what a camera is to whatever spirits may be present. They may have passed long ago and not realize what a camera is.Be respectful, let them know your intentions and that the device your using will not hurt them.
DVR (DIGITAL VIDEO RECORDER)
Our DVR has a 500 gigabyte hard drive with 9 infrared IR camera's.We are able to record with all 9 camera's at the same time.We can view the camera's one at a time or all nine at once on a split screen.Although some groups have had succees using wireless systems we prefer to use wired. When using wireless you run the risk of losing the signal, therefore losing footage that could be valuable.Wireless systems also restrict the range of camera placement, where as with wired you can go as far as you wish dependant on the cable length you chose. We believe that by using a DVR system our chances of capturing paranormal activity on film are greater being that we are able to monitor 9 locations at the same time.
H-2 Zoom Digital Field Recorder
This is a phenominal piece of equipment. Some people may compare this device to a digital voice recorder, but once you've used an H-2 there is no comparison. The sensitivity on these things is amazing. We use this device to attempt to capture EVP's (electronic voice phenomena) and have had great success. We do not recommend walking around with these devices due to their sensitivity.Best result's can be achieved by placing the H-2 in the center of a room on a tripod, table etc..What's great is that the H-2 has the ability to record in surround sound. So when listening you'll be able to tell exactly what direction the noise , EVP came from. You'll also have the ability to respond back to whatever may be trying to communicate with you because you can hear in real time by plugging in noise cancelling headphones. It's important to remember when conducting an EVP session to leave a 5 to 10 second pause between questions so whatever is present has the opportunity to answer you.Do your best not to whisper , this can make it difficult for the person who is reviewing the session. If you do whisper by accident or make any noise, remember to tag yourself so that it can easily be excluded upon reviewing. You may want to start the sesson by introducing yourself.Start off with questions like"What is you name?" It's not a good idea to go in guns blazing asking "how did you die?" Again have respect and remember that they were once living people like you and I.
FRANK'S BOX/GHOST BOX
The ghost box can be used to record EVP's, as it can be recorded, then analyzed for messages from spirits and ghosts. However, what makes the ghost box unique is that it can be heard audibly through either an external speaker or headset, where responses from the other side can be heard and responded to live – almost like chatting with someone by walkie-talkie. It does require the user to train his or her ear to hear the messages that are brought forth, as the noise and audio bits can at times be somewhat distracting. We've found that having it on the AM setting made it much easier to detect voices
The function of the ghost box and how it works seems to be affected by the strength of radio signals in an area. Poor signal quality reduces the ability for spirits and ghosts to make contact through the device. Perhaps there is not enough audio bits to be manipulated successfully for real-time communication. That would indicate that enhancing the antenna on these devices could improve results by the researcher.
The biggest debate over the ghost box might be just who is coming through these devices? Are they really spirits? Or,perhaps are our minds just performing a type of matrixing to make sense of things?
Most ghost boxes work by sweeping of the FM or AM band.
As the channels are scrolled through upward or downward, a mix of white noise and audio fragments can be heard. These audio fragments may best
be described as bits and pieces of dj voices, music, or whatever
is being broadcasted across the band at the time the sweep is made.
With the ghost box radio sweep method, the spirit or ghost voices seem to be
carried upon these audio fragments and white noise. The best way to record the ghost box sessions is with a simple hand-held digital recorder . We do not recommend using an H2 for ghost box sessions because the sensitivity is just way too high. Put the recorder near the ghost box, make sure the volume of the ghost box is not too loud or your recording will be ruined. Again leave a good pause in between your questions maybe a little longer than a regular EVP session. We will normally ask the same questions numerouse times at different intervals to see if we get the same reponse.Marci, our EVP specialist was not a beliver in the ghost box from the start.Slowly through numerouse experiments with the ghost box her opinion has been changing.Again,as with just about everything in this field it's always up for debate.
DIGITAL VOICE RECORDER
These recorders are used in to capture electronic voice phenomena (EVP). There are two type of recorders, analog, which uses a cassette, and digital, which does not use a cassette. When using an analog recorder, make sure that it has an external microphone in order to cut down on recording noise from internal mechanisms.Price range can vary on these recorders from $30 all the way up to over $100! We currently use 2 RCA recorders which we got for about $20 each on EBAY.Theywork great and we've never had a problem with them.If you are looking spend a little more we would suggest buying the H2 rather than an expensive digital voice recorder.Digital voice recorders are used much the same way as we use the H2.We opt to place them down and not walk around with them as we investigate.
SONY CAMCORDER WITH NIGHTSHOT
The only camcorders that we have found with built in night vision capability are by Sony.Alhough not all Sony camcorders have night shot,so be sure to read up before you make your purchase.Ours uses mini dvd's and pro duo memory sticks to store data. The camcorder is an excellent way to document activity when conducting and investigation. This along with the DVR system provides great coverage of the area your investigating. You can also see anonmalies when looking at the digital screen, which gives the opportunity to alert the other investigators to snap pohoto's etc.
IR INFRARED ATTACHMENT
This is an attachment for the sony camcorder. It provides extra IR illumination which furthers your vison range. You have to be careful because using to much IR can backfire on you by causing to much brightness. This can lessen your chances of being able to visibly capture paranormal activty, such as apparitions on film. These light range from 9 up to 36 leds. The ones we currenlty use are by SIMA.They run anywhere from $20 to $60 depending on the amount of leds you want. This can also be pricey as they run on lithium ion batteries which last for roughly 45 minutes and then need recharging.Angel our Tech manager and co founder of CTSS is currently working ona proto type night vision light which will run on 9volt batteries and can be made for a fraction of the cost

KII EMF METER
There are a number of EMF detectors on the market today and I'll tell you about a few of them. But first, the KII which is our favorite.Instead of giving digital readings to the XX.XXth precision the K2 alerts you with its led lights when you have an out of the ordinary increase in EMF. Precisely what a spirit is believed to be able to do with its EMF field. That is creating a sudden burst of EMF. The K2 EMF meter (a.k.a. K-II EMF meter) is the fastest sampling most sensitive single axis EMF meter on the market. And no other meter ALERTS YOU MORE CLEARLY. Because the led lights on the K2 meter light up like a "Christmas Tree" when you have a sudden spike in EMF.

These are the MEL 8704R.They have a couple different versions of these, some with extra features. They have a nice backlight display for easy viewing in the dark. They are also able to read and record ambient room temp. amd EMF readings
